Description

The walk was great. The kitchen floor is not. Four muddy paws can cover a hallway in under ten seconds, and a towel alone just pushes the mud deeper between the toes.

This dog paw cleaner fixes the doorway problem. Fill the cup with a little water and dip one paw. Twist gently, and the soft bristles inside loosen the mud. Pat dry, next paw. Two minutes at the door, and the floor you mopped yesterday stays clean.

Purpose: a dog paw cleaner for the mud at the front door

Mud lives between the pads and in the fur around the toes. A towel wipes the surface, but the dirt in those gaps comes off later, on your floor or your sofa.

The cup reaches those gaps. Water softens the mud and the bristles work it loose, so the paw comes out clean instead of just damp. You stop mopping the hallway after every rainy walk.

The real cost of skipping it

Muddy paws mean more than a dirty floor. They mean washing the dog bed more often, spot-cleaning the sofa and wiping the car seat. A two-minute wash at the door saves a lot of cleaning in the rest of the house.

Materials & make: how the paw cleaner cup works

The cup is PP plastic. Inside sits an insert lined with soft TPR bristles. The insert lifts out, which makes the cup easy to empty and the bristles easy to rinse.

  1. Pour a little lukewarm water into the cup, about a third full.
  2. Hold your dog’s leg gently and dip one paw in.
  3. Twist the cup slowly back and forth a few times.
  4. Lift the paw out and pat it dry with a towel.
  5. Repeat with the other paws, changing the water if it gets very muddy.

Three colours

Grey, green or pink. Keep the cup by the door with a towel, so it is in reach the moment you come in.

Fit: which paw cleaner size you need

  • S: 9 cm (3.5 in) opening, 13 cm (5.1 in) tall
  • L: 10 cm (3.9 in) opening, 15 cm (5.9 in) tall

How to measure: Measure across your dog’s front paw at its widest. Choose S for small paws and L for medium paws. Large breeds may not fit.

How to get the measurement right

Stand your dog on a sheet of paper and trace around one front paw while they put weight on it. Paws spread when a dog stands. Measure the widest point of the outline and compare it with the opening of the cup, leaving a little space so the paw can move.

Getting your dog used to it

Some dogs dislike having their paws handled. Start with a dry cup. Let your dog sniff it, then touch it to one paw and reward them. Add water after a few calm tries. Most dogs accept the routine once it is part of coming home.

The day it is for

November, and the park is more puddle than grass. You come in through the back door with a dog whose legs are brown to the elbow. The cup and towel wait on the mat. Four dips and four pats later, your dog trots into the kitchen leaving nothing behind but a few damp prints that dry in a minute.

For the rest of the coat after a wet walk, a good towel helps. The clean home and grooming page collects our tools for fur and mess.

Care

  • Empty and rinse the cup after each use.
  • Lift the bristle insert out and rinse it under the tap.
  • Let both parts dry before putting them back together.
  • Wash with warm water and mild soap once a week.

Questions about the dog paw cleaner

Do paw cleaner cups really work?

Yes, for everyday mud and dirt. Water softens the dirt and the soft bristles loosen it from between the pads. Twist gently a few times per paw, then pat dry. Very sticky clay may need a second dip with fresh water.

Which size fits my dog?

Measure across your dog’s front paw at its widest while they stand. The S cup has a 9 cm (3.5 in) opening and suits small paws. The L cup has a 10 cm (3.9 in) opening and suits medium paws. Large breeds may not fit.

Do I need soap?

No. Lukewarm water is enough for everyday mud. If you want to use a pet shampoo, use a very small amount and rinse the paws with clean water afterwards.

My dog hates having its paws touched. Will this work?

It can, with practice. Start with an empty cup, touch it to one paw and reward your dog. Add water after a few calm tries. Keep sessions short, and most dogs get used to the routine.

How do I clean the paw cleaner?

Empty the cup after each use, lift out the bristle insert and rinse both parts under the tap. Let them dry apart before you put them back together.
