From October to March, a lot of dog walks happen in the dark. Before work, after work, the last one before bed. On an unlit street or a park path, a dark-coated dog becomes almost invisible to cyclists and drivers, and sometimes to you.

This LED dog harness puts the light on your dog. A rechargeable light runs along the harness with fast flash, slow flash and steady modes. Your dog shows up from a distance on any dark walk. No torch to hold, no clip-on light to lose, and no coin batteries to replace.

Purpose: an LED dog harness for walks after dark

Reflective strips only work when a light hits them. An LED harness makes its own light, so your dog is visible from the side and from behind, even where there are no streetlights.

The light also helps you. In a dark park, you can see where your dog is when they wander off the path. Other walkers see them coming, too.

Why the harness beats a clip-on light

Clip-on lights fall off in bushes, run out of coin batteries at the worst moment and swing around on the collar. The light on this harness is part of the harness. It sits along the body, charges by USB, and stays where you put it.

Materials & make: how the LED harness works

The harness is mesh fabric with plastic buckles and a D-ring for the lead. An ABS battery box holds a 180 mAh rechargeable lithium battery, which charges through a USB port. Press the button to cycle through the light modes and off.

Three colours

Red, blue or green. Each colour lights up in its own shade, so you can match the harness to your dog or simply pick the brightest.

Fit: which LED harness size your dog needs

Sizing: Sizes S, M and L. Measure around the widest part of your dog’s chest before you choose. You should fit two fingers under the straps.

Getting the right size

Use a soft tape measure around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs. Send that measurement to hello@getthepawroom.com and we will confirm the right size before you order. It takes a minute and saves a return.

Checking the fit

1. Put the harness on and close the buckles.
2. Adjust the straps until two fingers fit underneath.
3. Check that the harness does not rub behind the front legs when your dog walks.
4. Clip the lead to the D-ring and take a short walk to test it.

Being seen on dark walks

A lit harness is one part of a safe evening walk. Wear something light or reflective yourself, keep your dog on a short lead near roads, and cross where drivers can see you clearly. On park paths, the steady mode helps you keep track of your dog without a torch. Charge the harness in the afternoon so it is ready when the light goes.

The 6 pm walk in November. Dark already, drizzle in the streetlights, and your dog is the easiest thing on the street to spot. A cyclist slows as they pass. You watch the green glow move along the hedge ahead of you and always know where your dog is.

Care

• Remove or switch off the light before cleaning.
• Hand wash the mesh in cool water and let it dry before charging.
• Unplug once fully charged; do not leave it charging overnight.
• Check the buckles and stitching every few weeks.

How do I charge the light?

Plug the battery box into a USB port to charge. It uses a rechargeable 180 mAh lithium battery, so there are no coin cells to replace.

What light modes does it have?

Three modes plus off: fast flash, slow flash and steady light. Press the button to move between them.

Which size should I choose?

Measure around the widest part of your dog’s chest and send the measurement to hello@getthepawroom.com. We will confirm the right size before you order.

Can my dog wear it in the rain?

Avoid soaking it in heavy rain. If the harness gets wet, switch the light off and let everything dry fully before charging.

Do I still need a reflective lead?

The harness makes your dog visible. A reflective or light-coloured lead helps others see the line between you, which is useful near roads and cycle paths.

How long does a charge last?

Battery life depends on the light mode you use. Charge it fully before each evening walk so it lasts the whole loop, and unplug it once it is full.

Can I clip the lead to it?

Yes. The harness has a D-ring for the lead. Check the buckles are closed and the fit is snug before every walk.
