Ten minutes of real hunting a day. Pull out the line, flick the feather, and let your cat stalk and pounce. Press to retract.
Description
An indoor cat with nothing to hunt finds something anyway. Your feet under the duvet. The plant on the windowsill. A pen knocked off the desk, one nudge at a time. Bored cats are not bad cats; they are hunters without a job.
This cat wand toy gives them ten minutes of real hunting a day. Pull out the line and flick the feather across the floor. Your cat crouches and pounces the way they would outdoors. Afterwards, press to retract the line and put the wand in a drawer. It is a low-cost way to tire out an indoor cat, and it fits in your pocket.
Purpose: a cat wand toy for daily hunting play
Cats are built for short bursts of hunting. A toy mouse on the floor does not move, so most cats ignore it after a day. A wand toy moves the way prey moves: it darts and it flutters. Your cat cannot resist following it.
Play with a wand uses up energy that would otherwise go into night-time zoomies. A short session before dinner, followed by food, mirrors the way cats hunt and then eat. A tired cat is more likely to sleep through the evening.
Why interactive play beats solo toys
You control the movement, so the game never gets boring. Slow it down to make your cat stalk, or speed it up for a chase. Hide the feather behind a chair leg and wait for the pounce. A ball cannot do that.

Materials & make: how the retractable wand works
The wand is a rod of about 38 cm (15.0 in) with a line of about 100 cm (39.4 in) that pulls out and retracts. A feather head and a tassel head swap on the end of the line, so you can change the game when your cat loses interest.
When play is over, press to retract the line. The short, tidy wand goes back in a drawer or a bag, out of reach of your cat.

Two heads, two games
The feather head flutters and suits jumping games in the air. The tassel head shimmers and drags well along the floor, which brings out stalking. Swapping heads keeps an older toy feeling new.
Two colours
Blue or pink. Both come with the same pair of heads.
Fit: how to play with a cat wand toy
Sizing: One size, about 85 g. Fits in a bag. It suits kittens and adult cats of any size.
- Start slowly: drag the feather along the floor, away from your cat.
- Let it disappear behind furniture so your cat has to stalk it.
- Speed up for a short chase, then slow down again.
- Let your cat catch it every few tries so the game stays rewarding.
- End with a calm catch and a meal or a treat.
Safety first
Wand toys are for play together. Never leave the wand out where your cat can chew the line on their own. Retract it and put it away after each session, and check the heads for loose pieces.

Common mistakes with wand toys
Waving the feather in your cat’s face is the most common one. Prey moves away from a cat, never towards it, so drag the toy away and across their line of sight. Another is never letting them win. A cat who never catches the toy gives up. Let them pin it every few tries, then start again.
The day it is for
Eight in the evening, and your cat has started racing laps of the hallway. You pull the wand from the drawer and draw the feather slowly along the floor. Your cat freezes and wiggles, then launches. Ten minutes later they are flat on their side, and the rest of the evening is quiet.

Care
- Wipe the rod and line with a damp cloth.
- Check the feather and tassel heads for loose pieces after each session.
- Swap in the spare head when one looks worn.
- Store the wand retracted and away from your cat, so the line cannot be chewed.
Questions about the cat wand toy
How long should I play with my cat each day?
Two or three short sessions of 5–10 minutes suit most cats. Watch your cat: when they lie down and stop chasing, the session is over. A short game before meals works well.
Can my cat play with the wand alone?
No. Use it together and put it away afterwards, so your cat cannot chew the line. For solo play, choose toys made for unsupervised use.
Are replacement heads included?
Yes. It comes with a feather head and a tassel head that swap on the end of the line.
Is it suitable for kittens?
Yes, with supervision. Kittens love wand play. Keep movements low and slow at first, and always put the wand away after the game.
Why does my cat lose interest in toys?
Toys that never move become furniture. A wand toy moves the way you move it, so the game changes every time. Swap the heads and vary the speed to keep your cat curious.
